To provide students grades K-12, residing in the Lakeland community of College Park, Maryland with academic supports, resources, and enrichment activities necessary to empower and equip them to become successful learners and leaders. Tutors help in Math, Reading, English, and Science on Mon, Wed, Thur 6:30-8:30 at College Park Community center.
The National Center for Children and Families, is essentially a transitional home and support system, for families in vulnerable life situations. We visit the Bethesda Branch of NCCF at least once a month and interact with the children. We help facilitate a number of different activity events that NCCF organizes for the kids. Our mission here is to provide a sense of relief and fun during a potential dark time in a childs life.
"The Real Relief" series, serves as an educational opportunity to enlighten students about fradulent relief efforts, and how to differentiate between fradulent and legit organizaiton efforts. The series is also a part of Do Better Inc.'s National Clothing Drive that is currently sending clothing shipments to Houston and Sierra Leone. Donations will be sent out every other week.
The Du Bois Enrichment Program is one of our newest mentorship programs, where we have Do Better members and volunteers host High School students from SEED DC, a boarding school in DC, for a few hours at different impactful campus events throughout the semester. These events range from football games, to First Look Fair, Homecoming juke joints, Nyumburu news breaks, classroom sit-ins, Do Better service events, Impactful guest speakers, and more! Our mission for this program is to expose these high school students to the college atmosphere, get their minds thinking about what they want to get involved with when they get to college, give them advice on college, and to show them their dreams are possible.
"The Food Run" is a national initiative that is run by all the Do Better chapters on campuses across the nation! We the University of Maryland chapter will begin on Saturday morning by partnering with a number of different organizations on campus and making sandwiches and bagged lunches, then traveling out to DC, meeting up with our Bowie State University chapter, and handing out the bagged lunches in person in different areas of D.C.
This year we will be walking in the St. Jude's Walk/Run to End Cancer. Individuals can register for free by joining our team through the link below. Start time is 8:00am and registration will begin at 7:00am. The start location will be at National's Park. We will most likely be carpooling to this event.
We're excited to launch our NEWEST partnership with NCCF and FREEDOM SCHOOL!!! Freedom School is an after-school care program for KIDS in our very on South East, D.C.!!!!! This program is held every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4:45 pm - 6:45 pm. Our mission in this amazing partnership with Freedom School and NCCF, is to ensure we are contributing to the social and intellectual enrichment of the kids with every interaction.
